The questions I would have asked at the leaders’ debate
To Gerry Adams
Do you think that all politicians (and by extension all workers) should be paid the average wage (no matter what their job/profession)?
Sinn Féin T.D.s take the average wage with the balance going back to the party - is Sinn Féin thus promoting Marxism?
To Enda Kenny
Do you think that a tax system should be fair?
Why is corporation tax at just 12.5% while the first band of income tax for an individual is at 20%?
Doesn’t such low corporation tax sell us (as a nation) short on the world stage?
Has Fine Gael policy ever been influenced by lobbying from big international companies that have located here?
To Joan Burton
Is Labour party policy influenced by the Siptu vote/support for Labour candidates? Would you favour Siptu severing its links with the Labour Party?
Do you think public and private sector workers should have the same rights (for example working conditions/pensions/career-breaks/union membership etc.)?
To Micheál Martin
Would you tax financial transactions if you were the Minister for Finance? Would you increase corporation tax?
If you had been there in the time of 1916 would you have been pro-treaty or anti-treaty?
To all
Do you believe in capitalism as it currently operates in the global economy?
If no, is there another kind of capitalism that you support? Explain.
If yes, would you say the current tax take in Ireland is sufficient to run the public sector services (such as health, education, water, roads, social welfare etc.)?
To all
Would you put party policy before personal conviction?
To all
Do you understand what “don’t interrupt” means?
